Speak your Mind with Style: Spoken Word – Brother Dash

Bring it with Dash! Bring the Arts and Activism together in the form of spoken poetry. Brother Dash is a spoken word poet known for his energetic and rhythmic style of delivery.  He uses a unique blend of “academic” English, street prose, and often either raw emotion and comedy  with in his poetry. 

 

Laugh Out Loud...on paper: Writing Comedy – Prince Abdi

What is in a good joke? Find out with the only Somali comic working in the UK. Release the Comedian within!

 

Heckling Please! Stand up with – Hamzah Moin

Stand up the ONE AND ONLY MANIAC MUSLIM! Learn how to pace, time and deliver your Comedy on and off stage. Let the comedy begin! A special feature of this workshop will give participants an opportunity to develop their improvisation skills on stage.

 

Create a New Rhythm: Drumming – Nii Addico

Join Nii for a drumming circle at Muslimfest - no experience required. All drums and lessons are included! A renowned artist, drummer and woodcarver from Ghana, Nii Addico recently immigrated to Canada to be with his Canadian wife, Bronwyn. Together they run Creation Africa, a small company created to showcase Nii’s work and to foster a new appreciation for the richness of African culture within Canada.

 

The Will – Serve Muslims

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar (RAA) that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: “It is not permissible for any Muslim who has something to will to stay for two nights without having his last will and testament written and kept ready with him.” (Bukhari- 4:1)

Keeping with the hadith of the Prophet (SAW), it is of utmost importance for all Muslims to write their wills in earnest.  With that in mind, we are introducing the ServeMuslims Will Project for the first time – at Muslimfest.

 

Perfection of Surah Fatiha: Art of Recitation – Usman Siddiqui

Learn the rules of Quranic Recitation (Tajweed) with Usman. Usman is currently working on an Ijaaza with Sheikh ‘Alaa in Hafs Tareeqah Ash Shatibiyyah.  He is a student at the Shatibiyyah Institute for Tajweed and Qiraa’aat under its director, a master of the Ten Qiraa’aat and one has been said to be the best reciter in Canada, Sheikh Uthman Khan.  Usman has written the Tajweed curriculum and course outline for the Islamic Centre of Canada (ISNA) with the help of his teachers.

 

Nasheed with Halal Meat

Halal Meat is a nasheed band that formed at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 2005. The five members have been experimenting with a unique style of music in promoting peace and spirituality since then, and have gained a large following across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. Sing with Halal Meat this August 1st at Muslimfest!

 

Ascend the Pulpit: Khateeb Training – Br. Sohaib Zuberi  

Learn the rulings, methods and techniques required for a good Khutbah (Sermon). Muslimfest hopes that Muslim students will take advantage of this workshop in order to perfect their delivery of Friday sermons at their respective institutions. Br. Zuberi has memorized the entire Quran and currently delivers Friday sermons at Meadowvale Islamic Centre and Peel Islamic Centre.

 

Create Drama with Domestic Crusaders!

This workshop provides an opportunity for participants to explore their creative talents. This is a fun and interactive theatre workshop with some of the members of the successful American play – Domestic Crusaders.

 

Art of Dawah – Samir Hussain

 This is an opportunity for participants to learn practical tips on Dawah. The hour long session will discusses the rulings and obligations of Dawah which all Muslims need to know. Discuss the scenarios, methods and the Art of Dawah with Brother Samir.

 

Please Note: Space for workshop is limited. Participants will be allowed entrance on a first come bases. Don’t miss out on this once a year opportunity!
